Assoc Prof Frans Vos
Treasurer (2024-29)
Director Materials Consult
Driven by his Passion for Materials Frans Vos founded his company Materials Consult in 2006. Materials Consult is specialized in failure analysis and materials selection, offering services to industry and authorities. The main focus is on the properties of materials and their interaction with the environments to which they are subjected. Corrosion and wear analysis are in this respect fields of specialization. This knowledge on Materials is transferred to society by means of training programs on e.g. ‘corrosion prevention’, ‘wear and lubrication of machine components’ and ‘metals production and properties’.
At the same time Frans Vos is visiting professor at the faculty of Engineering Technology at the KU Leuven, Belgium, where he teaches corrosion and welding metallurgy to future welding engineers.
Prior to his present activities Frans Vos was working for Vinçotte International, an authorized inspection body, where he was responsible for the metallurgical laboratory team as well as for the inspection services on coatings and polymer constructions.
Frans Vos studied Materials Engineering at the KU Leuven, Belgium, followed by realizing a Ph.D. in the field of thermal spraying of self-lubricating coatings for high temperature applications. Later in his career he also obtained a degree ‘introduction to law for court experts’ at the University of Ghent, Belgium.
As to the materials societies Frans Vos is since 2013 a board member and communications coordinator of the ‘Bond voor Materialenkennis (Society for Materials Knowledge)’, bringing together the Dutch speaking materials experts in The Netherlands and Belgium. In 2017 he was elected as the Honorary Treasurer of FEMS, starting from on 2018, January 1st.
