Position vacant: Professor (W3) for Materials Technology at the Ruhr-University Bochum

The candidate is expected to represent the field of Materials Technology in research and in teaching (most lectures: in German). She/he contributes basic introductory courses (for all mechanical engineering students: bachelor level) as well as advanced lectures directed towards students with Engineeing Matenals and Micro Technology as a major field of studies (bachelor and master levels). the basic courses cover engineering materials, materials processing and lectures about iron-based materials and welding technology. The advanced lectures should address new methods and technologies as well as cutting edge topics in materials processing and material behavior under
complex mechanical loading conditions.

Research should focus on the design and improvement of metallic materials, considering property and processing aspects. Ingot and powder metallurgy of metallic, e.g. high alloyed steels and cast alloys, as well as their heat treatment are of interest. Special emphasis is placed on mechanical, chemical and thermal characterization methods for engineering materials. We expect a proven research track record in experimental materials technology and familiarity with the application of advanced material modelling tools for materials design and component life assessment.
