SOCIEMAT - World Materials Day 2019

As in previous years, SOCIEMAT joined other member societies of FEMS to celebrate the World Materials Day. The World Materials Day event was hold at the Polytechnic University of Madrid on November 6.

During the event the following talks were given by materials experts:

  • Periodic table of chemical elements: its role in Materials Science, Prof. Bernardo Herradón Garcia, IQOG (CSIC).
  • The role of materials in achieving the sustainable development goals of the 2030 agenda, Prof. Paloma Fernández Sánchez, UCM, FEMS President.
  • Effect of ausforming on the bainitic transformation in medium carbon steels, Adriana Eres, CENIM (CSIC)-UPM, Winner of FEMS Master Thesis Award 2019.
  • Presentation of Material-ES, the scientific journal of SOCIEMAT, Rodrigo Moreno, ICV (CSIC), SOCIEMAT Vicepresident, member of FEMKS Executive Committee

Also, the SOCIEMAT 2019 prizes were awarded:

SOCIEMAT Caja Ingenieros Award "Best Thesis Degree in Materials Engineering" to Mª Dolores Martín Alonso, UCM, Controlled degradation of magnesium with coatings obtained by plasma electrolytic oxidation.

SOCIEMAT Award “Best Master Thesis in Materials” to Javier Castillo Seoane, ICMSE (CSIC)-Seville University, Synthesis and characterization of three dimensional ITO nanoelectrodes. Javier will represent SOCIEMAT in the corresponding competition “FEMS Master Thesis Award” JR EUROMAT 2019 Granada, Spain.
