Dr Amarante Böttger
Amarante Böttger graduated Cum Laude at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and moved to The Netherlands where she obtained a PhD in physics at the University of Utrecht.
Currently, she combines academic research at the Delft University of Technology (TUD) with applied research as a professor at the Avans University of Applied Sciences. She directs two research groups and is head of the X-ray facilities, and coordinator of the Materials for Sustainable Development of the Delft Materials Science and Engineering.
Her expertise is in the field of the design of materials for sustainable energy technologies (solar, hydrogen, and thermoelectric), and developing strategies to enhance sustainable materials use (green polymer chemistry, re-use of industrial and consumer plastic waste). Works with multinationals as well as small and medium enterprises. Engages students and young professionals in research with societal impact. Disseminates knowledge about materials through teaching, organization of workshops and conferences, publications, and as a board member of the Dutch-Belgian Society for Materials Knowledge (BvM). Envisions a stronger connection between the European national materials societies and attracting more researchers and industrial partners to join the FEMS materials knowledge network.
