After the welcome by Dr. Fausto Rubio Alonso, Director of ICV-CSIC and Dr. Juan José de Damborenea González, President of SOCIEMAT, Mr. José Antonio Peces, Senior Technical Examiner of the Spanish Patents Office presented his talk "Patents and technological information in R & D"
Immediately afterwards, Mr. Miguel Angel Morales Ruiz-Tapiador, Director of  the Foundation of Caja de Ingenieros gave to Elena Christodoulopoulos, Chemical Institute of Sarria the Award “SOCIEMAT Caja Ingenieros  Best Thesis Degree in Materials Engineering .

After the coffee break, Dr. Paloma Fernández Sánchez, Vice President of FEMS and outgoing President of SOCIEMAT, made a brief presentation of the Federation of European Materials Societies, FEMS, and presented the FEMS European Master Thesis Award. Once the three finalists presented their Master Thesis, and after  the jury`s deliberation, Manuel Alonso Orts, University Complutense of Madrid was proclaimed SOCIEMAT’s representative at the FEMS European Master Thesis Award which will be decided during Junior EUROMAT 2018 in Budapest.

Finally, Dr. Alicia Duran Director of the GlaSS Group, ICV-CSIC, presented the progress of her research in the talk "Nano transparent glass-ceramics with photonic applications".
