Society profile

The SVMT: bridging between academia and industry, between students, scientists and engineers. SVMT offers its members free access to essential technical and scientific information, participation in the SVMT-network, professional help at the start and during the career and an essential, personal benefit from instructive conferences, seminars, workshops and visits (organized by SVMT) at reduced rates. Attracted by the network between industry and academia, materials science students from EPFL and ETH Zürich as well as from applied universities have joined SVMT. This has led to a well-balanced age distribution among its members. The active participation (and sponsoring) from industry and academia has allowed to continue activities with high public perception, such as international conferences and workshops. Since more than 80 years, SVMT promotes materials science and technology in Switzerland. The SVMT-mission aims at:
• Enabling a better view into materials science and technology for all interested persons
• Encouraging young people to embrace a career in materials science and to accompany material scientists during their career
• Improving the mutual knowledge transfer between industry and academia.

SVMT is member of the Swiss Academy of Engineering Sciences, SATW and member of the Federation of the European Materials Societies (FEMS).
