Overview:
The 9th European Symposium on Biomaterials and Related Areas – BioMAT 2027 will take place in Jena, Germany, from 12 to 13 May 2027 as a hybrid event. Organized by the German Society for Materials Science (DGM), the symposium continues a long-standing series that has been held in the Jena–Weimar region since 2011. BioMAT 2027 brings together materials scientists, engineers, biologists, chemists, and medical professionals to discuss recent progress in the development, characterization, testing, and application of biomaterials.
The scientific program covers a broad range of topics, including the structural design of biomaterials, bioinspired and biodegradable materials, characterization and imaging techniques, biological responses and biocompatibility, antimicrobial strategies, drug delivery and regenerative medicine, as well as clinical and industrial applications. Additional themes include manufacturing approaches, regulatory aspects, and innovation pathways in biomaterials research. The symposium provides a focused two-day platform for interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration within the European biomaterials community.
