ICEAF IX Conference – Call for Contributions to Engineering Failure Prevention Research

The Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS) is pleased to announce the 9th International Conference on Engineering Against Failure (ICEAF IX).

ICEAF IX continues the long-standing biennial series dedicated to advancing scientific and technological approaches to engineering failure prevention and structural integrity. The conference provides an international interdisciplinary forum for researchers and engineers to present recent developments in methodologies, tools, and applications aimed at improving the reliability, resilience, and sustainability of engineering systems.

Conference Scope and Objectives

Modern engineering structures require a systems-level and multidisciplinary perspective to ensure integrity and long-term performance. ICEAF IX addresses this challenge by bringing together expertise across multiple scales—spatial and temporal—and across a wide range of application domains.

Key themes include:

  • Design strategies and methodologies for preventing engineering failure
  • Failure analysis, root cause identification, and monitoring technologies
  • Structural health monitoring, non-destructive testing, and computational modelling
  • Integration of AI, Machine Learning, digital twins, and virtual testing in engineering design and certification
  • Advanced materials and manufacturing technologies, including additive manufacturing, composites, and smart materials
  • Sustainability, circular economy approaches, and life-cycle assessment in materials engineering
  • Failure mechanisms in conventional and emerging engineering materials and systems

The conference reflects the increasing convergence of advanced materials science, digital engineering, and sustainability-driven design, highlighting both opportunities and challenges in next-generation structural integrity management.

Interdisciplinary Reach

ICEAF IX welcomes contributions from a broad range of fields, including aerospace, automotive, marine engineering, civil infrastructure, renewable energy systems, oil and chemical industries, bioengineering, and medical applications.
