The Slovenian Society for Materials (SDM), a FEMS member society, will celebrate World Materials Day on 4 November 2026 with Extraordinary Materials: Discover the Materials Shaping Our Future, an online science communication initiative on LinkedIn.
Organised by Dr. Patricia Jovičević-Klug and Dr.-Ing. Matic Jovičević-Klug, from the National Institute of Chemistry, Slovenia, the one-day campaign will use engaging visuals and accessible explanations to bring materials science and engineering closer to students, young people and the wider public.
The initiative will explore critical raw materials, magnetic materials, semiconductors, advanced alloys, functional surfaces and sustainable materials. By connecting scientific discoveries with everyday applications, it will highlight how materials contribute to clean energy, healthcare, electronics, advanced technologies and a more sustainable future.
The campaign will also celebrate the creativity of materials researchers, raise awareness of sustainable materials use and recycling, and highlight the importance of materials science for Slovenia’s scientific and technological future.
