Dr. Gerhard Hackl obtained the PhD degree in Metallurgy in 1991from the Montanuniversität Leoben (University of Mining and Materials) in Austria. 1986 he finished his master’s degree in the field of Metallurgy in Leoben. From 1987 to 1991 he was working as Assistant Professor at the Montanuniversität Leoben at the department of Material Science and Material Testing. Ín 1991 Dr. Gerhard Hackl ended his academic carrier and joined the Austrian Steel Industry. Since that time he worked in different companies and positions. In his last position in the industry he served as CEO at Breitenfeld Edelstahl a Speciality Steel company in Austria.

Since 2020 he is Executive Member of the Board of ASMET (The Austrian Society for Metallurgy and Materials and Managing Director of ASMET ResearchGmbH
