Society Profile
The Latvian Materials Research Society (LMRS) was founded in 1994. It is a public, independent, creative, and professional organization that brings together individuals involved in the development, research, production, and application of materials, as well as in the training of specialists required for these fields.
The Latvian Materials Research Society (LMRS) plays a leading role in advancing international collaboration at the interface of science, innovation, and industry. As an active organizer of high-profile scientific events, LMRS has significantly contributed to positioning Latvia on the European biomaterials research map. In 2021 and 2022, in close cooperation with Riga Technical University and the Scandinavian Society for Biomaterials (ScSB), LMRS successfully hosted the prestigious ScSB annual conferences – ScSB 2021 (virtual) and ScSB 2022 in Jūrmala, Latvia – attracting leading biomaterials experts from across the Nordic and Baltic regions. Continuing its mission to foster research-industry synergies, LMRS co-organized the 2023 seminar “From University to Industry” in partnership with the RISEus2 project – a Horizon 2020 Twinning initiative aimed at strengthening excellence in biomaterials research at Riga Technical University. This event brought together researchers, industry stakeholders, and policymakers to accelerate knowledge transfer and innovation in the field of advanced materials, bioengineering and biotechnology.
