As in previous years, SOCIEMAT joined other member societies of FEMS to celebrate the World Materials Day. The World Materials Day event was hold at the Polytechnic University of Madrid on November 3.

During the event the following talks were given by materials experts:

• Molecular Dance, Prof. Amador Menendez, IDONIAL.
• Eduardo Torroja, Strong Shapen and Material, Prof. Mª Josefa Cassinello
• Presentation of the Project Welcome to Materland, Prof. Gloria Rodríguez
• Presentation of the 70th anniversary special issue Materiales de Construcción Journal, Mª del Mar Alonso.

Also, the SOCIEMAT 2021 prizes were awarded:

SOCIEMAT Caja Ingenieros Award "Best Thesis Degree in Materials Engineering" to Sergio Perosanz, UPM.

SOCIEMAT Award “Best Master Thesis in Materials” to Nerea García de Albeniz, UPC, Laser-assisted surface modification of zirconia-based materials to enhance osteoblast response for dental applications. Nerea will represent SOCIEMAT in the corresponding competition “FEMS Master Thesis Award” JR EUROMAT 2021 Coimbra, Portugal.

SOCIEMAT Award “Diffusion and Scientific Education in Materials” to Prof. Amador Menéndez Velázquez, IDONIAL.
