Organized by:
German Society for Materials Science (DGM)

Overview:
The symposium Residual Stress in Materials Science and Engineering – RSMSE 2026 will take place in Kassel, Germany, from 23 to 25 June 2026 as a hybrid event. Organized by the German Society for Materials Science (DGM), the symposium focuses on the evolution, analysis, and impact of residual stresses in engineering materials. These stresses arise from mechanical loading, thermal gradients, and manufacturing processes and play a decisive role in the performance and lifetime of components.

The program covers fundamental mechanisms of stress development, advanced experimental and numerical characterization methods, and the influence of residual stresses on mechanical integrity and long-term reliability. Contributions span lab-scale investigations to large-scale analysis and highlight both scientific understanding and industrial relevance. The symposium provides a platform for researchers and practitioners to exchange insights on how managing residual stresses supports durable, efficient, and sustainable product design.
