SPM Master Thesis Award  Ana Carina Ferreira Lopes Universidade do Minho- Departamento de Engenharia de Polímeros "Study and evaluation of different combinations of virgin and processed PA material for Selective Laser Sintering technology"

World Materials day has been celebrated by our society since 2003 and this year, as usual, we celebrate it with the College of Materials Engineering.

The headquarters of the Order of Engineers in the city of Coimbra was the chosen place to hold this event.

The SPM and Order of Engineers Awards were assigned after two parallel sessions occurred.

This year 14 thesis were presented in the SPM Master Thesis Award Session and 10 in the Order of Engineers Award Session.

This was the record so far regarding the number of participants in the competition.

During the World Materials Day 2019 activities carried out by SOCIEMAT, prof Paloma Fernandez, FEMS President and former SOCIEMAT President received the SOCIEMAT Award “Diffusion and Scientific Education in Materials”.

With the motto I’m a material person and in the frame of the Worls Materials Day, the specialist Marta Mohedano , member of SOCIEMAT gave a talk on November the 8th at IES Lope de Vega (Granada),focusing onthe gender issue and explaining  to the students the steps to become researchers. The activity finished with a visit to the Autogyro manufacturing company located nearby, where students learnt about the materials used in aircraft.

As in previous years, SOCIEMAT joined other member societies of FEMS to celebrate the World Materials Day. The World Materials Day event was hold at the Polytechnic University of Madrid on November 6.

The School of Materials Science, an event organized annually for 47 years, took place on September 25-27, 2019, at Academic Centre for Materials and Nanotechnology in Krakow. The conference, organized in the form of a school, created conditions for the exchange of scientific thoughts, discussion, establishing cooperation and integration of young scientists in the specialty of Materials Science from all over Poland. The Main Board of the Polish Materials Science Society awarded BEng, PhD Łukasz Maj from the Institute of Metallurgy and Materials Science of Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow the prize for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of Materials Science for 2018. Dissertation title: "Characteristics of the joints made of the titanium alloys produced by using multilayer Ni/Al and Ti/Al foils”. Supervisor of the thesis was Prof. Jerzy Morgiel and co-supervisor was BEng, PhD Krzysztof Mars. We cordially congratulate the winner and wish him further scientific successes.... Read more
